Best Natural Skincare Products
Hello loves! This is one of those posts I mentioned that I wrote during my first trimester, but couldn't seem to put together online after feeling so sick. Finally, here it is!
One of the most common questions I get asked is about the best natural skincare products, so I figured it would be easiest to show you exactly what I use, both morning and night. Some products are pictured, while others are not (but I've linked to all so you can check them out).
Skincare is oh-so important, especially as we age. I started noticing a change in my skin during my late 20's, with wrinkles appearing on my upper forehead and outer corners of my eyes. Neither bother me, but it was a wake-up call to start taking better care of myself now so I don't pay for it later!
I also developed hormonal acne around that time (age 27) and it's been an issue ever since. Now that I'm pregnant, the hormonal acne is really kicking in. I develop cysts in the chin area quite frequently, and bumps on my forehead. Both areas are known to be related to hormones.
Most of the products I was using pre-pregnancy are also safe now, except for a few that were organic but did contain low amounts of retinol (a no-no for pregnancy).
Let's start with morning:
If I'm not showering, I'll simply wipe an Acure Cleansing Towelette over my face to get rid of any excess oil or dirt that may have accumulated overnight. This occurs more often than not, since I workout usually around 10am and I don't need to shower beforehand.
Once I shower, there's a whole different routine in the morning. I alternate between a few different face washes, including Beautycounter's Nourishing Cream Exfoliator, Mama Mio Gorgeous Facial Wash (you can buy the entire pregnancy kit and it's all amazing!), or Beautycounter's Charcoal Bar Soap.
Post-shower, I always use Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peels. These have been a LIFESAVER for my hormonal acne. After becoming pregnant, I switched to the extra gentle version instead of the regular strength version.
I then follow up with moisturizer, and rotate a few different kinds: Beautycounter's Day Cream, Avalon Organics Vitamin C Facial Serum, and Eminence Organics Tinted Moisturizer (my new favorite with SPF, not pictured, Vanilla Latte color). Depending on the day, sometimes I rotate in my friend Aimee Raupp's Balancing Facial Oil (the bottle to the left) and if I need a pick-me-up, I'll spay on Beautycounter's Rosewater Mist.
In the evening, I use whatever cleanser I mentioned above that I didn't use earlier that morning (if I exfoliated in the morning, I'll choose a more gentle cleanser at night).
And again, there's a different nighttime routine. As I'm writing this, I'm starting to realize how many products I actually have! Ha.
I start with Hydropeptide's Toner, my favorite toner for years now. I've tried over a dozen, and none work as well as this one, especially for acne prone skin. I use an organic cotton pad from Whole Foods (or you can buy these), and gently rub this on after my shower.
Post toner, I always start with Beautycounter's Eye Cream, especially after noticing the wrinkles I was developing. Moisture is key!
Then I chose from one of these three products: Organic Rosehip Oil (again, great for acne-prone skin!), IS Clinical Active Serum (pricey, and I'm not sure I would buy again because it doesn't work better than the other two), and Eminence Organics Clear Skin Willowbark Serum or Eminence Organics Eight Greens Youth Serum (not picture--I replaced the willowbark for the eight greens because it was more pregnancy safe).
In terms of bodycare, I always moisturize post-shower, and I tend to like creams over lotions. I've been soooo dry during pregnancy, and lotions just don't cut it! Beautycounter's Enrich Body Butter is a fave, as is their Body Oil. The oil makes my legs look extra shiny for nights out!
When it comes to deodorant, I've had to switch it up from what you see in the photo above. I love Crystal Essence, but the smell I was giving off from the pregnancy hormones was FAR stronger than what Crystal Essence could handle. Seriously, Ryan almost passed out one day after venturing a little too far into my armpit. Hormones are powerful things!! So I switched to Primally Pure Sensitive Skin Lemongrass Deodorant, and haven't looked back. This stuff is organic, and WORKS. The first I've ever had work for me.
And that's it! I know it seems like a ton of products, but I rotate them all the time so my skin doesn't get used to any particular brand. You can also moisturize with straight up coconut oil, which does the trick. Every brand I use is ranked extremely high on EWG's site, and is as natural, organic (most), and safe as possible!
Hope you enjoy! Do you have any brands that you adore? I'd love to hear about them in the comments! xx
